MAGICBOX charms media guests at singapore press preview
On 1 April 2008, all arrived with bated breath as Gateway Entertainment launched its latest entertainment to hit our shores - MAGICBOX - starring the Magic of Lawrence and Priscilla. The inaugural performance will open in July at the Esplanade. It is totally unlike any concert or musical. The unveiling of this soon-to-be hit took place in the Gallery Theatre at the iconic National Museum of Singapore, amongst decades of rich architecture and heritage.
The exclusive guest list included various individuals from the trade and media industries who all came together to witness first-hand, the world-class illusions of MAGICBOX. Among the illustrious 'who's who' list of invitees was well-known DJ Billy Wang of Love 97.2FM who came to show his support for the new production.
As guests started spilling in, cocktail chatter was rife about what was to be expected at the preview. And father-daughter magicians, Lawrence and Priscilla Khong, definitely did not disappoint!
Guests were ushered into the theatre built to take on the façade of a giant box. They were instantly drawn into a fantasy realm of sight and sound as shapes and forms flew into view all around them. In the distance, a box appeared gliding closer toward the audience followed by an antique-shaped key that unlocked the box. The four giant screens went black as lights gradually glittered out from the box - The Materializer, and magically materialized Lawrence within it.
With Lawrence's entrance, the surreal setting transformed to reveal a stage where Lawrence wowed the audience with his Dove Manipulation act, bringing forth doves from thin air. With the audience successfully astounded, Lawrence went on to further dazzle the audience by magically producing his daughter, Priscilla, from a bird cage. Following that, Lawrence charmed them with an engaging, interactive and witty performance in which a $50 bill borrowed from a member of the audience disappeared and later appeared within a randomly chosen lemon. Priscilla then took over the stage to present her signature illusion - The Parasol Act. With a cheeky smile, Priscilla magically called out colourfully designed parasols from thin air, slowly lining the back of the stage with them. The highlight of the afternoon event was the finale act - Op Art - co-performed by Lawrence and Priscilla where Lawrence shrank Priscilla's body into a tiny box and reassembled her.
After the showcase, Lawrence and Priscilla, mingled with the guests to share with them their more personal and artistic vision of MAGICBOX.
All in all, the showcase proved that MAGICBOX is a hit in the making and definitely a MUST-SEE for all ages! For more information, visit www.MAGICBOX.com.sg
