Greetings from Lawrence and Priscilla

Introducing…

Hey guys !

I am very glad to announce that our office has a new addition !   Some of you may have already met him at our recent Chinese New Year Celebrations at the Magic Circle’s office.  He is none other than Mark Parker.

Well, he has joined our team at Gateway Entertainment as our in-house magic consultant. Mark has been performing magic ever since he was  7 years old. He was first captivated by legendary TV magician, David Nixon.

He has had a wonderful time working with musical talents such as Wang Lee Hom and The Sugababes to bring magical elements in their concerts.  Mark has written 2 books of illusions, 4e, and the latest one, Vivify.  In fact, his newest illusion, 180 is currently in the works and should be shipping out soon. His advice to all aspiring magicians is to go back to the basics, timing, misdirection, logical thinking and being natural.

Just as the great Dai Vernon once said. “Be Natural and use your head” .

I am very glad to be able to work with such a brilliant mind who is very particular about Magic and will not hesitate to speak his mind. In fact,  he has been giving Eugene a healthy dose of stress with his magical practice.  So to quote Dai Vernon again, “Practicing is a lot like a bank. If you don’t put anything in, you won’t get anything out”.

Click here to check out a video of the first illusion Mark invented  performed by a japanese magician, Mr Zuma.

I have exciting news for you!

Lawrence & Priscilla are looking for performers to feature in their upcoming video projects. If you have an existing routine and want a chance to work on it… here’s your chance!

All you have to do is to practice  your 3-5 mins act, and drop us an email at magiccircle@gateway-e.com to confirm that you would like to audition for the film project . The auditions will be held by Mark Parker on 11th of March 2010 .

My father and I are committed to help those selected to polish and finetune their routines. Part of learning is giving new things a try, so don’t read too much into the auditions, and just come down to give it a try.

‘Sinful’ VS MasterMinds

Product Review: “Sinful” by Wayne Houchin and Josh Funk VS Masterminds by Criss Angel

I just received “Sinful” by Wayne Houchin and I am deeply disappointed. It is a very good trick but it is the exact same trick that is taught by Criss Angel in MasterMind DVD, Volume one. Now I recognize that Wayne Houchin  created this effect and has been made popular by Criss Angel. Criss Angel is marketing the same trick and, it is much better to get his DVD on this trick than to buy “Sinful” as it is marketed for the following reasons:

1.  In “Sinful”, the DVD does not demonstrate the trick at all but simply discuss the rationale of the effect which I felt was no big deal. “Sinful” describe the working on this trick with good graphic illustrations but it is not as good as having Criss Angel demonstrating it and then teaching the process on DVD.

2. “Sinful” comes with a book with cartoon illustration and so on but I feel that it is much ado about nothing.

So for anyone who wants to work on this effect, please get the DVD by Criss Angel. This is a great “street magic” effect which can be easily performed .

Difficulty: Simple, but requires some simple sleights of hand.
