The Constance of Change

A wise magician told me that the difference between a professional and amatuer magician is that a professional always does the same routine. I agree and disagree with that. I love doing the same thing differently. :)
Been working on redressing and improving my japanese parasol routine.
Take a last look at it before it takes on a a totally different feel. Excerpts from 2008Magicbox.

Introducing…

Hey guys !

I am very glad to announce that our office has a new addition !   Some of you may have already met him at our recent Chinese New Year Celebrations at the Magic Circle’s office.  He is none other than Mark Parker.

Well, he has joined our team at Gateway Entertainment as our in-house magic consultant. Mark has been performing magic ever since he was  7 years old. He was first captivated by legendary TV magician, David Nixon.

He has had a wonderful time working with musical talents such as Wang Lee Hom and The Sugababes to bring magical elements in their concerts.  Mark has written 2 books of illusions, 4e, and the latest one, Vivify.  In fact, his newest illusion, 180 is currently in the works and should be shipping out soon. His advice to all aspiring magicians is to go back to the basics, timing, misdirection, logical thinking and being natural.

Just as the great Dai Vernon once said. “Be Natural and use your head” .

I am very glad to be able to work with such a brilliant mind who is very particular about Magic and will not hesitate to speak his mind. In fact,  he has been giving Eugene a healthy dose of stress with his magical practice.  So to quote Dai Vernon again, “Practicing is a lot like a bank. If you don’t put anything in, you won’t get anything out”.

Exciting News !!!

DO YOU LOVE PERFORMING MAGIC?

WANT TO IMPROVE YOUR STAGE PERFORMANCE?

I have exciting news for you!

Lawrence & Priscilla are looking for performers to feature in their upcoming video projects. If you have an existing routine and want a chance to work on it… here’s your chance!

All you have to do is to practice  your 3-5 mins act, and drop us an email at magiccircle@gateway-e.com to confirm that you would like to audition for the film project . The auditions will be held by Mark Parker on 11th of March 2010 .

My father and I are committed to help those selected to polish and finetune their routines. Part of learning is giving new things a try, so don’t read too much into the auditions, and just come down to give it a try.

A Miraculous Start of a Wonderful Year

I hope this has been a start of a great new year for all of you.

Personally, I’ve had a great January and would like to share it with all of you. What started out as bad ankle deteriorated into a series of different problems. Last October, I went for a Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) and was told that I had damaged my ankle ligaments, loss of cartilage and a severely damaged and swollen bone. The doctor recommended that I go for operation in January this year, whereby they would do 3 different procedures to my ankle – tighten my ligaments like a rubber band, suck out the fragmented cartilage and drill four holes into the bone hoping that a better circulation of blood would help heal my bone. As this was to be a major operation, I would have had to be put on a wheelchair for 3-6months, thereby putting me out of action totally. I was seriously, totally bummed out.

This January, I went for a second opinion hoping for a better prognosis. Well, this doctor just made the entire situation of my ankle sound gloomier. Explaining it in simple terms, he stressed on the problem about the damaged and swollen bone. He basically gauged that the bone’s damage was either a late stage two or early stage three. When it progresses to stage four, the bone would start to  fragment and separate,  which would mean that I would never be able to perform as as I would be limping perpetually as I can no longer put my weight on my foot.  The doctor decided to sent me for a second MRI to check on the rate of deterioration of my bone.  How depressing!

This is the part that you gotta pay attention to!
