Magic at Christmas Magic was a success with many of our members of the Magic Circle
coming together to be a part of the event of the year. From the decorations, to the cute lil ribbon tied on each and every one of the program booklets, and the many many balloons that were cute deftly twisted. Truly a very very big THANK YOU to everyone who came and made this show a whoppin success.

Below all the glitz and glamour, are many untold stories. Some of you may have already read about Kai and I who have appeared on the TODAY Newspaper. From Kai’s smooth routine, it is hard to imagine that the 22-year-old has had to make his way in the working world since the age of nine and had gotten into “smoking, drinking and gang fights”. I was portrayed by the paper as having been “an angry teen in bad company who was searching for something he could be good at.” Well, for me, i have found that special thing.

Truly each and everyone of the performers made their routines appear so effortless and, well, magical. Many do not not know the many cuts and bruises that under their awesome costumes – products of punishing hours of rehearsals that went on until 4 am.

No one knew that beneath Jack Yeo’s serenity as he performed his heart-tugging tribute to his mother was a serious case of sleep deprivation.

The same goes for Daisy Ho. While she looked young and carefree in her pert matching pink bonnet and stilettos, she had to juggle rehearsals with heavy responsibilities in her banking career. In fact, she almost missed being a cast of the show. As it was, she did not have the luxury of slipping into the audience to enjoy the remaining programme after her performance as she had to rush back to her office.

As we watched Jonathan Ng dance and twirl his canes,no one would have suspected that he had dislocated his knee earlier this year and that it was hurting right at that moment. Well, after enjoying his elegant routine, we are most glad he did not pull out!

And that is the heart of the ‘onion’ that is Christmas Magic. Certainly, it offered two hours of entertainment to 800 spectators, among whom were orphans from Jamiyah Children’s Home, elderly who did not live with their family but reside in Jamiyah Home for the Aged; disadvantaged families from TOUCH Community Services, youths from Boys Town Home, as well as diabetics from TOUCH Diabetes Support.

I have really been blessed being involved in this production. I have seen the energy and warmth that has been given by all our members and volunteers in preparing for this show. The smiles and excitement of the beneficiaries when they received the gifts was truly magical.

With that i end my post and I hope that this Christmas, each and everyone of you will experience a truly magical Christmas.
